Ordering & Shipping
Can I change or cancel an order after placing it?
Contact us as soon as possible at orders@dukescoffee.com.au or (+61 3) 9417 5578. We can change or cancel an order before fulfilment begins, but we cannot guarantee changes once it has been processed.
If you entered the wrong delivery address, include your order number and the correct address. Australia Post and StarTrack generally cannot redirect a parcel once it is in transit, and additional redelivery or reshipping charges may apply.
Can I add products or delivery instructions to an existing order?
Contact our orders team promptly. Products may be added before fulfilment begins, provided any additional payment is completed before despatch.
Delivery instructions can be entered at checkout, although final parcel placement remains at the carrier’s discretion.
When will my order be roasted and despatched?
We roast throughout the week and despatch fresh coffee daily. The next available shipping day is displayed on our website, and we will email tracking information once your parcel has been collected.
How long does delivery take and how much does shipping cost?
Delivery times and costs depend on your location, parcel size and selected service. Standard Australia-wide delivery is provided through Australia Post. StarTrack Overnight Express is available as a faster premium service.
Available services, current prices and estimated delivery timeframes are shown at checkout. See our Delivery & Returns page for more information.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes. We offer free Australia-wide shipping on orders over $100. The threshold is calculated after discounts, coupons and promotions have been applied.
How can I track my order or report a delivery problem?
You will receive a shipping confirmation email with a tracking link once your parcel has been despatched. Tracking can take several hours to update after collection, so check your junk folder if the email has not arrived.
If your parcel is significantly delayed, marked as delivered but missing, or arrives damaged, contact us with your order number and photographs where relevant. We will investigate with the carrier and work with you toward an appropriate resolution.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We offer international shipping through UPS and FedEx Priority. Available services and prices depend on the order size and destination and are calculated at checkout.
International orders may be subject to local duties, taxes or import requirements, which are the recipient’s responsibility.
Coffee Subscriptions
How do Dukes Coffee subscriptions work?
Choose an eligible coffee, select whole beans or an available grind, and choose your delivery frequency. Your payment method is charged automatically for each recurring order, and your coffee is roasted and despatched according to our regular schedule.
We will send a reminder email two days before each order is processed. Available products, frequencies and delivery regions are shown when you subscribe. Existing subscriptions can be managed through the Subscription Portal.
What are the benefits of subscribing?
Subscriptions make it easier to keep fresh coffee on hand without placing a new order each time. Subscribers can save up to 20% across our range of regenerative organic specialty coffees.
Subscription coffee is roasted as part of our regular production schedule and despatched fresh.
Can I change, skip, pause or reschedule my subscription?
Yes. Before your next order is processed, use the Subscription Portal to change your coffee, quantity, grind or delivery frequency; skip an upcoming delivery; pause your subscription; or bring forward or delay your next order.
Your reminder email also includes a Manage Subscription link. Once an order has been processed, we cannot guarantee changes.
Can I update my delivery address or payment method?
Yes. Update these details through the Subscription Portal before your next order is processed.
Changing the address in your general customer account may not update an active subscription, so confirm the delivery details within the subscription itself.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can cancel through the Subscription Portal at any time before your next order is processed.
Cancellation stops future recurring orders but does not cancel an order that has already been processed or entered fulfilment.
Can I subscribe to seasonal or Single Producer coffee?
Individual seasonal coffees are not offered as ongoing subscriptions because they are available in limited quantities. Instead, our rotating Single Producer subscription features different coffees as new harvests and limited lots become available.
We aim to send a new coffee with each delivery, although weekly subscribers may occasionally receive the same coffee twice before the next release becomes available.
Can I add a one-time purchase to my next subscription order?
Yes. Sign in to the Subscription Portal, select Browse All and add any eligible products to your upcoming delivery. These products are charged once and are not added to future recurring orders.
If the order has already been processed, contact us as soon as possible and we will help where we can.
Do you offer gift or international subscriptions?
Gift subscriptions are available as fixed-term or prepaid purchases, so the recipient is not charged. Available gift formats and customisation options are shown when purchasing.
International subscriptions are available where supported by our checkout and subscription platform. Shipping costs, delivery timeframes and import requirements vary by destination and are displayed when you enter the delivery address.
Gift recipients and international subscribers can manage eligible settings through the Subscription Portal.
I can’t access my subscription. What should I do?
Open the Subscription Portal and use the email address entered when the subscription was created. Request a new login link or password reset if required.
If your email is not recognised, contact us with your name, delivery address and a recent order number so we can locate the subscription.
Choosing & Brewing Coffee
Which Dukes coffee should I choose?
Begin with your brewing method and the flavours you enjoy.
Choose an Espresso Roast for espresso machines, moka pots and milk-based drinks. Choose a Filter Roast for pour-over, batch brew and other filter methods.
Our Coffee Buying Guide explains our coffee categories, roast styles, flavour profiles, certifications and processing methods.
What is the difference between a blend, a Single Producer coffee and a Season’s Best release?
- Multi Producer Blends combine coffees from multiple producers or origins to maintain a consistent flavour profile throughout the year.
- Single Producer Coffees showcase an individual producer and harvest and change seasonally.
- Season’s Best releases are rare, exceptional coffees, often featuring experimental processing and very limited availability.
- Decaffeinated coffees are selected for quality and decaffeinated using the Swiss Water® Process.
What is the difference between espresso and filter roast?
Espresso roasts are developed for depth, balance and structure. They perform well in espresso machines and pair naturally with milk.
Filter roasts are lighter and designed to highlight clarity, acidity and aromatics.
These are recommendations rather than rules. You can brew espresso roast as filter for a fuller cup or use filter roast as espresso for a brighter, more expressive result.
Do you offer decaffeinated coffee?
Yes. We offer certified organic Single Producer Decaf processed using the Swiss Water® Process.
The producer, origin and flavour profile may change throughout the year as new harvests become available.
Should I buy whole beans or ground coffee?
Whole beans retain their aromatics longer and provide greater control over extraction, so we recommend grinding immediately before brewing where possible.
Pre-ground coffee is a practical alternative. Select the grind that matches your brewing equipment and keep the bag sealed between uses.
How much coffee and water should I use?
Use a scale and begin with the recipe provided for your brewing method. For filter coffee, a ratio between 1:15 and 1:18 is a useful starting range.
Espresso recipes vary by basket, coffee and roast style. Keeping dose, beverage weight and time measurable makes adjustment easier. Recommended recipes are included on our product pages.
Why does my coffee taste sour, bitter or extract incorrectly?
Sourness often indicates under-extraction: try grinding finer, extending the brew time or using hotter water.
Bitterness or dryness can indicate over-extraction: try grinding coarser or reducing the contact time.
For espresso, grind finer if the shot runs too quickly and coarser if it runs too slowly. Keep the dose and beverage weight consistent and make one small adjustment at a time.
Many espresso recipes fall between 25 and 35 seconds, but taste and measured yield matter more than time alone.
Coffee Freshness & Storage
How fresh is Dukes coffee?
We roast in Melbourne throughout the week and despatch daily. Every bag includes a roast date so you can judge freshness directly.
Coffee generally benefits from a short rest after roasting. The ideal brewing window varies by coffee, roast style, processing method and storage, so begin tasting after the first few days and observe how it develops.
How should I store coffee?
Keep coffee in its original resealable bag or another airtight container in a cool, dry cupboard away from sunlight, heat, moisture and strong odours.
Press excess air from the bag before resealing. If you buy a larger quantity, dividing it into smaller sealed portions reduces repeated exposure to oxygen.
Should I refrigerate or freeze coffee?
Do not refrigerate coffee for everyday use, as refrigerators introduce moisture and odours.
Freezing can preserve unopened or carefully portioned coffee for longer. Seal it airtight and allow the portion to return to room temperature before opening it.
Can coffee go stale?
Yes. Oxygen, heat, light and moisture gradually reduce aroma, sweetness and clarity. Correctly stored older coffee is generally safe to drink, but it may taste flat, papery or muted.
The one-way valve in a coffee bag allows carbon dioxide released after roasting to escape while limiting the amount of oxygen entering the sealed bag.
Coffee, Sourcing & Certification
What is specialty coffee?
Specialty coffee is assessed for high cup quality and the absence of significant primary defects, typically achieving at least 80 points under recognised evaluation systems.
A coffee score measures attributes such as aroma, flavour, acidity, body, sweetness, balance and cleanliness. Scores support evaluation and quality control but cannot fully describe a coffee’s character or an individual drinker’s preference.
What is the difference between Single Producer coffee and a microlot?
A Single Producer coffee comes from one producer or farm and showcases that producer’s work and harvest.
A microlot is more narrowly separated by factors such as plot, variety, process or harvest date because its quality or character warrants an individual release. In origins where smallholders deliver cherries to a shared washing station, a highly traceable release may instead be separated as a day lot.
These coffees are limited because they are produced in small quantities and require additional separation, processing, evaluation and traceability. A future harvest may return, but never in exactly the same form.
What is organic coffee, and why does Dukes only roast certified organic coffee?
Organic coffee is grown and processed under a verified standard that restricts synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fertilisers, GMOs and artificial inputs. Certification also requires documented handling and traceability throughout the supply chain.
Every coffee we roast is certified organic. We believe exceptional flavour and responsible agriculture belong together, and we select coffees for both quality and the integrity of their production.
Does organic coffee taste better or offer health benefits?
Certification alone does not determine flavour. Variety, place, harvest, processing, roasting and brewing all influence the cup.
Organic certification does not guarantee a particular health outcome, but it reduces the use of synthetic agricultural chemicals and supports healthier soils, biodiversity and more resilient farming systems.
What is regenerative agriculture?
Regenerative agriculture aims to improve land and farming systems over time. Practices vary by location but commonly focus on soil health, biodiversity, ground cover, water cycles, reduced disturbance and long-term resilience.
Organic certification establishes restrictions on prohibited inputs and verifies how a product is grown and handled. Regenerative agriculture goes further by focusing on measurable improvement to ecological systems.
How do organic and regenerative farming practices influence coffee quality?
Coffee quality begins at the farm. Organic and regenerative systems can build soil organic matter, support microbial diversity, improve nutrient cycling and help coffee plants remain resilient through changing conditions. Healthier living soils can create stronger conditions for the plant to develop flavour compounds and phytonutrients within the coffee cherry.
What certifications does Dukes hold?
Every Dukes coffee is certified organic, including certification recognised in Australia through ACO and in the United States through USDA Organic. Selected coffees also carry Regenerative Organic Certified® status.
Regenerative Organic Certified® builds on organic certification with additional requirements covering soil health, animal welfare and social fairness.
Why doesn’t Dukes rely on Fairtrade or Rainforest Alliance certification?
We respect the role Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance have played in improving coffee production, but they focus on different outcomes from those central to Dukes. Neither certification requires coffee to be grown to certified organic standards.
Because healthy soils are foundational to exceptional coffee, every coffee we source is certified organic. Where available, we also seek Regenerative Organic Certified® coffees.
How do processing methods affect flavour?
Processing is one of several factors that shape coffee flavour. Farming practices, variety, altitude, climate, ripeness, harvest quality and drying all influence the final cup.
Washed coffees are generally clean and bright. Honey and semi-washed processes retain some fruit mucilage during drying and can create additional sweetness, body and texture. Natural coffees dry inside the whole cherry and often develop more pronounced fruit and syrupy sweetness.
Anaerobic fermentation, thermal shock and carbonic maceration are more specialised approaches used to influence fermentation and flavour. Read more in our Coffee Buying Guide.
Is Dukes packaging recyclable or compostable?
Our 250g coffee bags can be recycled through soft-plastics recycling programs where facilities are available.
Our 250g and 150g boxes are made from 100% FSC-certified paper and can be recycled through kerbside recycling. Our 1kg coffee bags are not currently recyclable because they require a higher-barrier material to protect coffee quality.
We continue to test packaging materials and formats that reduce environmental impact while preserving freshness and quality.
